The mountains make a particular kind of sense.

I started Pirialta because I wanted to share what I've found in the high Pyrenees with people who are ready for the same thing. The passion is for the mountains themselves — the terrain, the challenge, the beauty of landscape that most visitors to Catalonia never see.

What the mountains ask of you is specific: genuine preparation before you go in, decisive thinking when it counts, the ability to read conditions and act on what you find. Going back to basics — shelter, food, water, moving efficiently through terrain. The particular satisfaction of earning a view, arriving at a refuge after a long day, sitting with people who are there because they chose to be.

Catalunya has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. The Pyrenees drew me in through skiing and hiking, and the more time I spent in the high terrain, the more I wanted to bring others up here. Pirialta is how I do that.

Twenty-five years in large organisations.

WPP, Deloitte Digital, AKQA. Senior roles, significant decisions, the full range of what good leadership looks like and what it costs when it goes wrong. I know boardrooms and I know what they demand — and I know the particular value of spending time somewhere that demands something entirely different.

That experience sits in the background of every Pirialta expedition — most obviously in the leadership programme, where it becomes the material. In every other programme, it shows up differently: in how the experience is planned, how the group is looked after, how decisions are made on the mountain.

Doing this properly.

Mountain Leader (Summer) qualification — Mountain Training UK — is in progress. This is the benchmark award for leading groups on mountain terrain in summer conditions. It requires a minimum of twenty logged quality mountain days before training, a six-day training course, and a separate five-day assessment.

Hill & Mountain Skills — the formal Mountain Training skills course — completed May 2026 through TrigPoint Adventures. A required step in the Mountain Leader pathway.

All Pirialta expeditions are led on the ground by a ROPEC-registered guide (Registre Oficial de Professionals de l'Esport de Catalunya) — the Catalan government's mandatory registration for professional mountain guides operating commercially in Catalonia.

Pirialta operates as a UK package travel business under the Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018. Financial protection for all bookings is provided through ABTOT — the Association of Bonded Travel Organisers Trust. Pirialta is a trading name of Warnes Marketing Consulting Ltd, registered in England and Wales.
